Author: John Mill Chanter (1808–1893)
Biography: John Mill Chanter was born in 1808 in Hartland, Devon, the son of William and Mary Chanter. He attended Oriel College, Oxford and earned an M.A. (1834). He was ordained and served as the vicar of Ilfracombe for 51 years. In 1849, he married author Charlotte Kingsley, the sister of the novelists Charles and Henry Kingsley. The couple would have several children including novelist Gratiana Chanter. Chanter wrote, with the assistance of his wife, a collection of stories. He died on 11 February 1893 in Brendon.
