Biography: Gage Earle Freeman was born on 3 June 1820 in Tamworth, the son of army officer Charles Earle Freeman and his wife Mary (née Mary Parsons). He attended Cambridge before taking holy orders. In 1848, he married Christiana Slade and the couple had ten children. Freeman held several livings, notably curate of Macclesfield Forest with Clough then vicar of Askham. He was a noted sportsman, especially falconry, and wrote journalism under the pseudonym "Peregrine." Among his nonfiction and poetry, he wrote a single novel. He died on 15 December 1903 in Askham.
