Biography: Sarah Anne Mercier was born on 2 May 1842 in Tring, the daughter of solicitor George Northwood and his wife Susan Macdonald. In 1868, she married clergyman Jerome Mercier and the couple had five children. During her married life, she wrote several works for young adult readers. In addition, she edited the children's magazine Friendly Leaves. By the turn of the century, the couple moved to Tewkesbury. She died on 5 February 1917 in Tewkesbury.
