Author: William Bernard Guinee (1839–1901)

Biography: William Bernard Guinee was born in 1839 in Co. Cork, the son of Michael Guinee and his wife Ellen (née Connors). After a brief start as a teacher, Guinee turned his hand to literature, contributing work to the local newspapers including poetry. This led to an appointment to the Examiner and later the Freeman's Journal. In 1875, he moved to London where he worked at several newspapers. His only novel Talbot's Folly (1882) was published during this period. Though well reviewed, Guinee never followed it up. In 1884, he married Marie Francis Magrath and the couple had no children. He returned to Co. Cork where he died on 1 September 1901 after a long decline.
