Biography: Selina Mary Causton was born on 7 June 1852 in London, the daughter of Liberal politician Sir Thomas Chambers. In 1871, she married the politician Richard Knight Causton but the couple was childless. During her married life Causton wrote the novel Claudius (1879). Later, she wrote a memoir of her life in politics with her husband. In the twentieth century, her husband was made 1st Baron Southwark. She died on 1 January 1932 in Shanklin, Isle of Wight.
