Author: Gerald Stanley Davies (1845–127)
Biography: Gerald Stanley Davies was born in 1845 at Banff Castle, Scotland, the son of Admiral George Davies and his wife Julia Hume. His elder sister was the poet Augusta Webster. His father worked for the Coast Guard and after his retirement they moved to Cambridge. Davies was educated at Charterhouse and Cambridge University before being ordained. He served as a curate before join Charterhouse as its assistant master. In 1874, he married Constance Mary Hilliard and the couple had five daughters. In addition to his educational duties, he wrote several books, including some juvenile fiction. He eventually became master of Charterhouse. Davies died on 12 February 1927 in Godalming.
