Biography: Gertrude Rosalie Henderson was born in 1857 in Durham, the daughter of carpet manufacturer William Henderson and his wife Lucy Durham. Her younger sister was the Canadian journalist and novelist Julia Willmotte Henderson (later Henshaw). Growing up in a wealthy household, she was educated at home with governesses and private tutors. Henderson never married and lived with her parents in Durham, East Preston, and Hastings until their deaths. She wrote but a single novel, The Story of a Moorish Knife (1885). In the twentieth century, she travel to America and western Canada where her sister Julia lived. She spent her later years in St. Leonards-on-Sea and she died while traveling on 4 December 1922 in Wiesbaden, Germany.
