Author: Frances Charlotte Ryder (1838–1868)
Biography: Frances Charlotte Ryder was born in 1838 in Ecclesfield, the youngest daughter of clergyman Thomas Richard Ryder and his wife Anne (née Pulleine). Her father died suddenly a year after her birth. Her widowed mother moved the family to Richmond. Under the pseudonym "D. Richmond," Ryder wrote a serial for Once a Week and three novels. In 1863, she married the cokery manager William Culley Stobart and the couple had four children. She died a week after giving birth to a daughter on 8 February 1868 in Darlington. Note: author identified in the Routledge publication books; often conflated with Elizabeth Croft.
