Author: Eliza Fanny Pollard (1839–1911)
Biography: Eliza Fanny Pollard was born in 1839 in London, the daughter of surgeon Edward William Pollard and his first wife. Her step-brother was the bibliographer Alfred William Pollard (1859–1944). Pollard worked briefly as a governess before turning to literature as a profession beginning with the historical novel Avice (1864). She followed with several more works of fiction and biographies aimed at young adult readers. She never married but did adopt a daughter later in life. Pollard died suddenly in 1911 at Cayeux-sur-Mer.
