Author: Matilda Mary Pollard (1823–1889)

Biography: Matilida Mary Pollard was born in 1823 in Devon, the daugher of Captain John Pollard, R. N., and his wife Matilda. Notably, her father served with Lord Nelson at Trafalgar. Pollard never married and turned to fiction in her fifties, producing a dozen and a half titles for young adult readers. In addition, she was constant contributor to magazines. For much of her life, she lived in the west country with her unmarried sisters. She died on 30 March 1889 in Parkfield near Plymouth.
