Author: Laura Jane Curling (1841–1867)

Biography: Laura Jane Curling was born on 30 July 1841 in Steyning, the youngest daughter of surgeon Thomas Curling and Mary Redman. By 1851, the family lived in Kensington. Her father died in 1858 and within a few years Curling and her sister worked as governesses. Perhaps to make money, she turned to fiction and wrote two novels which showed promise yet did not catch the public's notice. Unfortunately, while working as a governess for Madame Bodisce, she died in Tula, Russia on 6 January 1867.
